My name is Georgina Flores and this is my 7th year as Del Obispo's school counselor. I am here to support all students in their social-emotional, academic and college/career growth. School counseling supports children's skill development in areas like managing their emotions, communicating their needs, building self-esteem, improving their problem-solving abilities, and more. I am also here to help students develop coping skills to manage things like academic stress, peer conflict, significant life events such as losing a loved one (pets included), coping with family changes or moving.

To participate in counseling services, students can be referred by their parent(s), teachers/staff members or can self-refer. The referral links can be found on the left hand side of this webpage. If a teacher refers or student self-refers, I will send home a consent form with details about the services expected. Second Step is a social-emotional learning curriculum delivered to all students (TK-5th) through classroom guidance lessons conducted by the school counselor. Second Step is designed to build a foundation of social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, decision making and problem solving to increase student's success in schools and prepare them to become responsible citizens.

The School Counselor…
- Is an advocate for all students and for the school counseling program.
- Works with stakeholders within the district, as well as in the community, to provide a high-quality school counseling program.
Conversations between the student and counselor are considered confidential. However, there are exceptions to this confidentiality. If a counselor has reason to believe that a student is being harmed, neglected, or is a danger to him/herself or others, the counselor has the legal, ethical, and professional responsibility to report such concerns to the parents or the appropriate authorities.
